Why Ducks?

For over a century, the public have flocked to pleasure grounds, funfairs and amusement parks in search of fun - be it scares from the thrill rides, relaxing with friends over a hot dog or getting intimate with a loved one on the ghost train.

Technology has moved on since the early days of the Victorian velvet coasters and the brakeman sitting half way down the train of the old side-friction woodies, but some things have remained constant: The thrillseeking public in search of fear and fun, the over-inflated prices (OK, so some things aren't necessarily positive) and the various other inhabitants we share our fun parks with.

King among all these animal inhabitants are the ducks (with the possible exception of the mouse population on Disney properties). While some theme parks come with zoo or farm attachments, at almost any park you visit you'll be guaranteed a duck encounter. It is now time for their contribution to the theme park world to be recognised.[Swimming duck]

ThemeParkDucks.com

How many websites reviewing each ride at a park do we need? With a few exceptions, they're mostly the same. They all copy each others' content, supplemented with badly written "reviews" and dodgy photos. It's time to fill in a new niche: thus, themeparkducks.com.

This site has primarily been put together to allow the work of our fine duck friends to be recognised by the whole of humanity (subject to internet connection). At its heart lies a growing database of photographs of them as they work parks throughout the land.

Equal Duckortunites Policy

[Sitting duck]We recognise the unique contribution to the atmosphere of a theme park that each duck makes, regularly rising at the quack of dawn. In view of this we will seek not to discriminate against lame ducks, sitting ducks or Peking ducks.
